Russian Lunar-25 Mission ended abruptly

Russian Lunar-25 Mission Russian space mission named Lunar-25 met with a significant setback due to the spacecraft losing its control and crashing on Moon’s surface. As per records, The last successful landing of a Russian spacecraft on the Moon occurred in 1976. It is a significant setback to the Russian space missions as they were set to launch the Luna-26 and Luna-27 missions in the coming years.

Russia’s first moon mission in decades 

On Sunday morning, the Lunar-25 mission ended its expedition on Moon’s surface, leaving Indian Chandrayaan-3 to become the first spacecraft to land near the lunar south pole if it succeed in it (On Sunday morning, the Chandrayaan-3 Lander Module moved into its pre-landing orbit of 25 km x 134 km from the lunar surface). Regarding this, The ISRO added “The module would undergo internal checks and await the sunrise at the designated landing site (on the moon). The powered descent is expected to commence on August 23, 2023, around 1745 hours IST,”.
