In a recent development, Russian President Vladimir Putin has passed new legislation which strictly prohibits individuals from officially or medically changing their gender. The presence of promoting “traditional family values,” prohibits any medical interventions aimed at altering a person’s sex and also bars individuals from changing their gender in official documents or public records. Only medical intervention will be allowed to treat congenital anomalies, where they further annual marriages in which one of the partners has undergone a gender change.
