Police Drone Unit The Greater Chennai City Police ( GCP) launched ‘ Police Drone Unit’ for the purpose of aerial surveillance over vast areas and quick detection of criminal activities.

With a budget of Rs 3. 6 crores, according to a press release by the GCP, in an ongoing by the hand of Tamil Nadu Director General Of Police ( DGP) C Sylendra Babu, in the presence of Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal at Besant Avenue, Adyar. The Greater Chennai City Police ( GCP) had selected a total of nine drones under 3 categories Quick Response Surveillance Drones (6), Heavy Lift Multirotor Drone (1) and Long Range Survey Wing Place (2). All of the drones are equipped with built-in artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. It can also be operated up to a distance of 5-10 km from the ground station. With it, there is the provision to establish 2 storey building and function with over 20 trained police personnel, which at present operates around Marine and Elliot’s beaches.
