Einstein Cross In the recent update, NASA had discovered the Einstein Cross a splitting and magnifying light from the far depths of the universe, 1st predicted by Albert Einstein in 1915 as a consequence of his theory of general relativity. 1st discovered in 1985 by a team of astronomers led by Dennis Walsh, known as Q2237+0305, located in the constellation Pegasus and had a redshift of z= 1.7 which makes it one of the most distant known quasars. The phenomenon was named the “Einstein Cross” due to the cross-like pattern created by the four bright images of the quasar

Astronomers had discovered a phenomenon where light from the far reaches of the universe is split and amplified. The image captured shows a foreground elliptical galaxy distorting and dividing a beam of light from a background galaxy called Einstein Cross Einstein’s theory of general relativity explains how massive objects warp space-time where gravity is described as the curvature and distortion of space-time in the presence of matter and energy. This curved space influences the movement of energy and matter, including light. When light passes through a heavily curved region of space, such as the vicinity of massive galaxies, it bends and creates a halo-like effect. In this case, the observer is Earth, & the lensing galaxy is foreground elliptical and the background quasar has aligned in a way that perfectly duplicates the quasar’s light.
