Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP) Recently, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari launched the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP) aimed at enhancing road safety by elevating vehicle safety standards for up to 3.5-tonne vehicles in India. The programme’s purpose is to create an ecosystem of competitive safety enhancements which will initiate increasing awareness among consumers of India for transport while assisting the consumers to take informed decisions by a comparative assessment of vehicle performance under crash test conditions

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways initiate the programme for road safety

Today in New Delhi, Nitin Gadkari launched the programme named Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP) aiming at enhancing road safety by elevating vehicle safety standards for up to 3.5-tonne vehicles in India. It will come into effect from 1st October 2023. Under this programme, the car manufacturers and importers are required to submit an application FORM 70-A to the agency designated by the government, where these tests will verify the safety of the car through the front impact, side impact test and side impact pole test. At present, EVs will not be tested under the BNCAP protocol, however, the government will soon include green cars under the test. The result of the BNCAP will be shared with the manufacturer, after the written approval from the BNCAP standing committee. Publication and certification of crash test aftermath will be published by BNCAP and certification is done by the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT).
