Who is Dr R. Chidambaram?

Dr R. Chidambaram was the pioneer and played an integral role in the design and execution of the peaceful Nuclear Explosion experiment at Pokhran in 1974 and led the team of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), which designed the nuclear devices and carried out in cooperation with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) the Pokhran tests in May 1998. He completed his early education in Meerut and Chennai, completing his B.Sc. with honours in physics, having stood first rank at the departmental and the university level of Madras University in 1956. After enrolling in the master’s program, Chidambaram taught introductory physics laboratory courses and obtained M.Sc. in physics. Previously served as the principal scientific adviser to the federal Government of India, Chidambaram previously served as the director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC)— and later as chairman, of the Atomic Energy Commission of the Government of India and he contributed to providing national defence and energy security to India.
