IBM launches Policy Labs  for AI regulation ‘Precision Regulation of AI’

Precision Regulation of AI’ IBM launched the Policy Labs for AI regulation with the aim of increasing the responsibilities of companies to develop and operate trustworthy AI, at the World Economic Forum in Davos to be attempted by IBM CEO Ginni Rometty, with Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser, White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Coordination Chris Liddell, and OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría. IBM seemed to have collaborated with the government and other related organisations for public policies to meet the challenges for the implementation, and collaboration of Artificial Intelligence.

IBM launched the Policy Labs for AI regulation

One of the significant moves, that IBM launched was the Policy Lab for the promotion of AI regulation for the purpose of building and deploying artificial intelligence,  for trust as a cornerstone of it. As per IBM, In the world of AI, organizations can be involved in various stages. Initially, they might do research, develop tools, and create interfaces (APIs) for AI technology. As things progress, they may also be responsible for training, overseeing, operating, or even owning the AI models that are used for real-world business purposes. So, we can distinguish between two roles: “providers” and “owners.” Providers are those who develop and offer AI technology, while owners are those who are in charge of managing and controlling the AI models once they are being used in real-life situations. The specific responsibilities of each role depend on where an organization fits into these functions.

Princline enshrined in the Precision Regulation for Artificial Intelligence

  • Accountability is proportionate to the risk profile of the application and the role of the entity providing, developing, or operating an AI system to control and mitigate unintended or harmful outcomes for consumers.
  • Transparency in where the technology is deployed, how it is used, and why it provides certain determinations.
  • Fairness and security are validated by testing for bias before AI is deployed and re-tested as appropriate throughout its use, especially in automated determinations and high-risk applications.
