 India’s First Woman Charge d’Affaires In Pakistan Soon the Indian-born woman named Geetika Srivastav going to serve as joint secretary at the headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), as Charge d’Affaires In Pakistan more specifically in Islamabad, where she succeeded the  Suresh Kumar. It is significant as after 77 years of independence, India’s government had appointed a female head of mission in Pakistan.

From the batch of 2005 IFS, Geetika Srivastava is serving as joint secretary in the MEA’s Indo-Pacific division of high commissions in Islamabad and Delhi. As part of her ambassador career she served in the Indian Embassy in China from 2007 to 2009, where in India, she worked for the Regional Passport Office in Kolkata and as the MEA’s Director of the Indian Ocean Region division. Her appointment comes soon after the United Kingdom (UK) posted its first woman envoy in Pakistan.
