President Droupadi Murmu launches INS Vindhyagiri, an advanced stealth frigate and the sixth vessel crafted as part of Project 17A at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers

INS Vindhyagiri President Murmu launches INS Vindhyagiri at the Kolkata-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), where the vessel will join its sister ships, INS Himgiri and INS Dunagiri, at the Outfitting Jetty at GRSE bolstering India’s defence industrial base. The state-of-the-art ship will have the latest gadgets with guided missile frigates, each 149 metres long, approximately 6,670 tonnes and a speed of 28 knots.

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the unveiling of INS Vindhyagiri, an advanced stealth frigate, at the GRSE facility situated alongside the River Hooghly in Kolkata in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Governor SCV Ananda Bose, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, and various other high-ranking officials. Named after the mighty Vindhya mountain range, symbolizing strength, determination etc where it touches the water of the River Hoogly The big Project 17A had Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) make four ships, and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE) work on three. The first five ships, named Taragiri, Udayagiri, Dunagiri, Nilgiri, and Himgiri, have been successfully set afloat.
