India initiated the   International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA)for the conservation of 7 cats on 9th April 2023

  International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) In order to run the conservation drive for the conservation of 7 big cat speices on Earth, India had intitated the International Big Cat Alliance ( IBCA), including Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Puma, Jaguar, and Cheetah, where Indian ministry had called for collaborted efforts to join forces to join forces agaisnst poaching and illegal wildlife trade in Asia on Global Tiger Day. Inspired from Project Tiger’s sucess, which was single concentrated to the 70% of world tigers, India had intitated for the project of 7 big cat’s conservation. While at addresssing at the inaugral secession of the  G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Ministerial Meeting via video conferencing on Friday, PM Modi had said “India has recently launched the international Big Cat Alliance for the conservation of 7 big cats on our planet. It is based on our learnings from Project Tiger, a pioneering conservation initiative. As a result of Project Tiger, 70% of the world’s tigers are found in India. We are also working on Project Lion and Project Dolphin.”

International Big Cat Alliance is seeInternational Big Cat Allianceks to bring together  countries, conservationists, and experts from around the world droping together each for conservation , while sharing  knowledge, expertise, and best practices in conserving these species with other countries that have significant big cat populations, such as Indonesia, Brazil, and South Africa.International Big Cat Alliance ranges from  97 range countries which are natural habitat of the these animals all over the world, which are as follows:-

  • The countries include Africa, such as Suriname, Armenia, Tanzania, Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, etc.
  • Parts of the Middle East
  • Asia, including India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and China.
  • Parts of southeast Asia, including, Cambodia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Lao.
  • The Americas


International Big Cat Alliance Governance

1. General Assembly

  • Comprised of all member countries.
  • Responsible for making key decisions and setting the overall direction and policies of the IBCA.
  • May convene at regular intervals to discuss and address issues of common interest and concern.

2. Secretariat

  • A body within the IBCA responsible for administrative tasks and coordinating activities.
  • The members of the Secretariat are chosen by the General Assembly.
  • Assists in organizing meetings, managing communication, and facilitating cooperation among member nations.

3. Council

  • Comprised of a minimum of seven and a maximum of fifteen member nations.
  • Selected by the General Assembly for a five-year term.
  • Responsible for strategic planning, policy formulation, and overseeing the implementation of decisions made by the General Assembly.

4. IBCA Secretary General:

  • Appointed by the General Assembly for a defined period.
  • The appointment is made based on the advice of the Council.
  • Serves as the chief executive officer and head of the Secretariat.
  • Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the IBCA and implementing the decisions and policies of the General Assembly and the Council.

In the event held at 9th April 2023, at Mysuru, Karnataka, Union Minister for Environment ,Forest and Climate Change Shri Bhupender Yadav said that conservation of big cats is essential for the conservaion of big cats and thier habitats for natural climate change adaptation, water, and food security for millions of people, and provide livelihood and sustenance to forest communities.
