Union Cabinet Approves 57,613 crore PM-eBus Sewa Scheme Boosting Electric Public Transportation

PM-eBus Sewa Scheme Union Cabinet had approved the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme expanding city bus operations by deploying 10,000 electric buses through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with a total cost of 57,613 crores, in which the central government will provide financial support of Rs 20,000 crore. This scheme will include cities with a population of three lahks and above as per the 2011 census, including capital cities of Union Territories, the North Eastern Region, and the Hill States, where this scheme aims to include 45,000 to 55,000 direct job opportunities.

Union Cabinet approves PM-eBus Sewa Scheme under which  10,000 e-buses will be deployed across cities in the country as Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. Under this scheme of PM-eBus Sewa Scheme, States/Cities shall be responsible for running the bus services and making payments to the bus operators under which the Central Government will support these bus operations by providing subsidies to the extent specified There are 2 segments of the scheme including augmenting the city bus services and Green Urban Mobility. Under the Augmenting the city bus services, the e-buses will operate under the PPP model and the government will help develop associated infrastructure to provide support for the development/upgradation of depot infrastructure whereas under Green Urban Mobility initiatives will include Bus rapid transport projects would be developed along with non-motorised infrastructure like bike sharing, bicycle lanes. through Innovative projects like National Common Mobility Card, Intelligent Transit Management System etc.
